And Introducing the Alternative Literary Consultancy
What an incredible few days! With nearly 1,000 attendees, 30 independent publishers, and a packed programme of free talks, panels, and discussions, this year’s Alternative Book Fair was bigger and better than ever.
From insightful publishing panels to our deep dive into literary prizes, and from headline author events to the buzzing Indie Press Fair, we saw first-hand the power of independent publishing and the importance of direct connections between readers, authors, and publishers.
Charlotte Ambrose captured it beautifully in The Bookseller:
"There’s an energy round here – nobody is getting rich, they’re just getting excited about books.” – Kate Bland, Spiracle Audiobooks
The fair was founded on the belief that publishing should be more accessible—that authors and readers alike should be able to engage with publishers without barriers. As Neil Griffiths, publisher at Weatherglass Books, put it:
"I think this fair is the best book event in London because of the representation of presses, the panels and, most importantly, the turnout to the panels."
What’s Next?
We’re already looking at ways to expand the fair into regional locations like Brighton, Bristol, and Bath. And we’ll also be working with Islington Libraries to develop year-round events to continue supporting writers and independent publishing.
